Roethke's Exercise

Senseless Moon
By Alberto Carreon

The frog gave a soft bite to the moon,
A dog is blue and hot as a swing,
The frog cut and eye sharp
A cloud burns hot on leather.

A rock kissed the wavering slag
A cut on the throat of the blue mud;
The moon is as important as surprise,
The eye is as important as swing.

A bruise in a cool eye blue,
To say the dog got surprised and hot
The belief to burn the wavering cloud
Soft is the curve of the blue rock

Not too bad.

Overall this class was good, it is hard to come up with things that could have been done different since the way in which this one was set up worked fine with me. I did love the idea of doing the biggest project at the begging of the class, just to think that I could have been doing that towards the end of the semester along with all the other things that we did would have been a bummer! On the other side there was a lot of reading but that was expected, so nothing unusual there, the reading was not boring which helped a lot and I liked the way in which the professor explained everything to us; the quizzes were not too hard and by no means am I complaining about this, actually i found it really helpful since I had to catch up on a lot of missed grades. I guess my only two complains would be that quizzes could not be made up, emergencies happen and quite honestly I found it a little annoying that no opportunities were offered to make up the work for people that was absent and late, the other complain would be that there was no drinks and cakes to go with the class, but then again I don't think the school offers that right? This class was really good, and it really helped me better myself, I would definitely recommend it to people I know.

PS. The people in the class helped a lot, they were easy to get along with and cooperative.

Creator Of My Seams

I suck at this, but after thinking about this for way too long... this is what I came up with.

You, creator of my seams
Give me comprehension to live,
You, the owner of my dreams
Remain inside of them and make me feel
So in your mystery I can reveal
That eternal feeling inside of me

You, with the moon behind your heart
Will not be able to keep us apart
You are the motive and the mirage of my existence
Exclusively you, I want you to be the one

My craziness, my calmness, my hallucination, my direction and my way to follow
Exclusively you, I want you to be the one
And I put my world to come on your hands
Because I live to be always with you, my wife.

Hypocrisy in the Marines.

I think there has been many time when I have either witnessed or confronted hypocrisy, however, the time period in which it actually stands out is back when I was in the Marines; that is mainly because when we were deployed I saw many of my friends come back to the US to find out that while they were away, their loved one would cheat on them and make another life behind their back. There is nothing wrong with that, but their actions reflected hypocrisy because they were making people believe that everything was fine when it wasn’t… at least not for the Marine at the front line. Also seeing people in the news talking about the US military and how they are pro war and all that just made us sick, because we knew that all they did was talk and had no experience whatsoever about the military life or the things we had to do and sacrifice to survive. When you see someone like that you just want to punch them in the face. It is amazing on the amount of people you can find around you while you are in the military that would guarantee to help you out whenever and then when you need them the most they just walk away such as friend, loved ones, family, etc. You can even find Hypocrisy inside the military as well, and that is because you can find out quick that you can’t trust all the people that you are supposed to trust, I can count with one hand the people that I could really trust while I was in the military and even now, but the rest to me were just hypocrites. That is why I think that the whole time period when I was in the military is the time of my life in which I experienced Hypocrisy.

Pain Is Weakness Leaving The Body

The last couple of weeks have been extremely crazy for me, I believe the reason behind so much craziness is linked to my family, work, school, military and many other things trying to come at me all at one time. I say this because on the same week I got promoted at my work and well, my work tripled and here I am trying to learn one million other things that have nothing to do with the things that used to do on a daily basis. Another thing that happened this weekend was that my year old caught a severe cold, then it went to my five month old and finally got to my wife. So that left me trying to help my wife doing all the chores at the house, I am amazed on how hard it really is to do house work all day. AS of the military well, I still got 5 months remaining on my contract and someone called me wanting me to go to some base here is Georgia and do a physical test to make sure that I've been staying physically active, if I don't pass the test then I would have to go and exercise there for about three months minimum. Well, reality is that I've been out of active service from a little under five years and the only exercise I've done throughout all that time is to walk up to the kitchen to get me beer. So now I gotta take care of three sick people, organize my work because I gotta look out for five guys now and finally try my best to get in to shape. But other than that I am doing great and enjoying life, every time I am being overwhelmed I remember my grandfather and the Marines telling me "Pain is weakness leaving the body", which leads me to believe that the more it hurts on me the better, right?

Troy was not racist.

I think it would be hard to classify Troy as a racist man, especially after taking on consideration the time in which the whole story takes place. Troy grew up in a time when segregation was big and the difference between races was shown everywhere, even though he used multiple racial names when referring to white people, we must take in consideration the fact that back then those names were common among black people when referring to white people. The time when Troy grew up was the time in which African American fought the hardest to obtain equality in America, his personality was driven by all those movements and racial tensions happening at the time. He expressed the same amount of dislike towards both black and white races, referring to black people as niggers and to white people as crackers. More than anything I think that he was trying to gain equality in society, he was trying to be a good example for his friends and family by confronting people over him, which at the time was mainly white people. He also used to tell all kinds of stories to his friends and family to try to impress them, and out of all the stories he had to tell about white people and past experiences he had, probably only a small percentage was true. He was mainly trying to obtain a better paying job, no to discriminate against white people. To be racist you have to hate against other races, and discriminate in a bad way in which harm is intended. By no means was troy trying express that type of behavior towards white people in the story.

Money over friendship

When Charley said “The only thing you got in this world is what you can sell”, he tried to tell Willy that he needed to stop worrying about meaningless stuff such as, the fact that he named someone Howard. It looks like Willy believes that just because many years ago he came up with his boss’s name he deserved some kind of special treatment or special privileges. Willy focused too much on that and didn’t and was not careful at trying to keep his job, so basically Charley tried to tell Willy that he needed to worry more about things that matter such as a good job, family and so on. Another example is that fact that Willy lives wondering what went wrong between him and Biff instead of trying to make things better between him and his family. Willy didn’t realize that he was harming his whole family by acting the way he was acting.
I think it reflects very much in the America from 1940’s because after the black depression it was hard to find a job or even to keep the job someone had. Back then all it matter to make a living or be able to get a job were someone’s skills and qualities, because people was trying to get the most production and hiring the least amount of people possible because businesses could not afford to waste money.
It reflects on today’s society because the competition to get a job is so big, with internet and computers, that friendship or past accomplishments don’t really matter. Americans live with a mentality of not caring what someone did for another person in the past, but instead people look more at what that person can do for someone at this moment, leaving once again all friendship and past accomplishments behind.

Death Of A Salesman Cast

Death of a Salesman was quite nice and entertaining, considering the fact that reading is not one of my biggest hobbies. I think that if I was to put this work in o a movie I would probably use actors like Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Leornardo Dicaprio, and Taylor Lautner.
I believe that Jack Nicholson would make a great Willy because of the way he changes from being a grumpy old man to being a nice father and at the same time the way he goes from being completely sane to the way he start imagining all kinds of stuff, He makes a great person for this role because of his past experiences and the way I’ve seen him work. Perfect grumpy, happy, insane, old man.
Diane Keaton would be great as Willys wife because of the way she has to basically put up with everything, she would make a good Linda, not only because of what she is capable of, but also because of the long working relationship she has with Jack Nicholson, they know each other too well and could easily be categorized as the perfect couple for this play.
Leonardo Dicaprio will definitely be my Biff because if I want my play to be successful, I need someone that will attract a bunch of girls, because we all know that if girls show up to the play… guys will follow. Not only that, but quite honestly the guy is a pretty good actor. He would make a great rebel old kid that does not know what he is doing or where he might be headed to.
Taylor Lautner will be my Happy, and that is because he also makes a great young actor, and the perfect good ole brother that is trying to get the family together.

The American Dream

Americans have lived for many years with a goal in mind; to live "The American Dream". I spent a full day asking people around me what the American Dream was all about, and every person had a different answers for the same question; some believed that the American dream was driven by money and nothing else, others believed that it is family what constitutes the dream, and many others thought that it is made of money, family and a dog. I got the answers that I was looking for but going to other people to try and guide me to the right answer for me has created confusion inside my head, to the point where I did not know what the dream was all about for me.
After a while I came to realize that the American Dream is basically an accomplishment or goal that people have set in their life, something that will make them happy. Therefore, if someone is happy and prosperous then they are living “The American Dream”. On the other hand, when someone achieves a goal, they tend to set bigger goals for themselves. Those actions make the “American Dream”, bigger and sometimes unachievable. This conclusion leads me to believe that the American Dream are just words made up to make people stronger and to persuade them to never give up, and it also makes it impossible to achieve.

Fuddruckers in my life.

When I see a Fuddruckers restaurant it is hard for me not to think about my wife; that is because back in the summer of 2002 that was the place where I met my wife. Everything started because one of my friends was trying to talk to a girl that worked a Fuddruckers and he wanted me to help him talk to the girl, according to him she was beautiful, not like any other girl, and all kinds of other things, little did I know; she was going to end up being my wife. At first she didn't really wanted to talk to me, apparently we had met before and I was rude to her; up to this day I still can’t remember when that happened.
About a week after we first met I ended up going back to the restaurant, she took my order and as she was walking away from the cash register she fell flat on her butt, I couldn’t help it but to laugh, she didn’t like that… not one bit, and long story short I ended up wearing my cheese burger home. After a couple of days I guess she felt bad and started to talk to me; we ended up being really good friends and I did tried to help my friend get with her, but she ended up telling me that she was not interested on him. One year after a good friendship we ended up together and got married in 2005, for our first food we decided to go to Fuddruckers. Seven years later we are still together and every time we go to that restaurant we look at each other and smile thinking about all the things we’ve been through and how that restaurant was so important for our relationship and now we got two kids to prove it.

Northern Mexico's Enchiladas

Last Saturday my mother came to visit from Mexico; she loves to cook and obviously could not resist going straight to the kitchen to fix one of my favorite dishes (I guess that was her way of saying “I’m happy to see you”), Enchiladas from Northern Mexico, Quite honestly I don’t know if that is the real name of the dish or if that is the name that my mother came up with after she invented it. The ingredients for this delicious plate are:
  • ·         Guajillo Pepper which by the way is not even the real name of the pepper, it is produced by drying the Mirasol pepper, and as a good pepper I believe it comes from Mexico, mainly because I have not seen it anywhere else.
  • ·         Tortillas freshly made at my house by my wife, but if we break it down even more; you could say that tortillas are made out of three other ingredients which are:

o   Corn and more than likely it came from Texas, because not all corn tastes the same and the corn that we like always comes from Texas
o   Salt, this ingredient could come out of many places, however I’m going to adventure to say that it came from Sam’s Club, you can never go wrong with the truth.
o   Water which came out of my faucet and more than likely traveled all the way from Marietta which is where the main water treatment plant is located at.
  • ·         Manchego Cheese, this happens to be the most important ingredient, without cheese there is no enchilada! Even though the dish is 100% Mexican, the cheese is not. It is made in a region in Spain called “La Mancha”, there are many other cheeses that look and even taste similar to this one, but do not compare to the real deal. Made out sheep milk it is one of the best foods I could ever ask for, we don’t go to Spain that often so whenever I can I try to stock up on it.
  • ·         Onion, I know for sure this one came out of our same state because I shop at my local store where I know they pick their fruits and vegetables fresh every season.
  • ·        Puya Pepper which only happens to grow in south Mexico.
  • ·         Vegetable Oil, I read the label on the bottle so I know this one came straight from Southern California.
  • ·         Cumin is last ingredient; this is nothing but spice to help give a little more taste to the food, I don't really think it needs it, but I don't wanna be the one to mess up the dish so I use it anyways.

There is also an option to add chicken or beef to the meal, but I like mine without any meat. Basically the whole dish is nothing but tortilla, cheese and salsa, but at the same time there is nothing like it.
